DRY MOUTH DIALOGUES: an artistic enquiry into xerostomia

This project explores the profound impact of xerostomia (dry mouth) on communication, expression, and quality of life. In collaboration with specialists at Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Hospital and researchers at King’s College London, it combines clinical research, patient engagement, and artistic collaboration to better understand and represent the lived experience of those affected.
Through co-created artwork, patient stories, and 3D salivary gland models, the project seeks to raise awareness of post-treatment side effects often overlooked in healthcare. Supported by international collaborators, it aims to inspire empathy, influence future care practices, and highlight the vital role of art in transforming medical education and patient understanding. Outcomes will include an exhibition and presentations to healthcare professionals and students, bridging art and medicine to foster compassion and change.
Supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England
